Physiology education has seen significant evolution in recent years, with diverse programs and curricula tailored
to meet the demands of modern healthcare. However when we compare the Portuguese Physiology with other
known references in Physiology education and research, as it happens in the United Kingdom (UK) or in NorthAmerica (United States USA and Canada CAN) the first difference noted is that in those counties Physiology
is regarded as a profession while in Portugal Physiology is a basic component of all health related profession
courses. Recently a new profession within the public hospital careers emerged involving physiology – the
Clinical Physiology. This work is meant to compare these differences with our reality. A better understanding of
different systems their foundation and purposes is important to shape our options for the future.
