Resumo
The present study focus both women's victimization experience and on women's violence against partner. We aim at addressing their discourse about love and intimacy and at understanding how women conceptualize and experience violence. The study involved 12 women with whom we conducted an individual interview about their lives' love story. We conclude that both the reports of victimization and perpetration fall on broader socio-cultural discourses about love and intimate relationships that support female victimization and restrict female aggressiveness. We conclude that female violence had idiosyncratic characteristics and different practical implications, related to gender inequalities and asymmetry, differentiating male and female intimate violence. Female aggression emerges as a strategy to deal with adversity in order to gain some control over the relationship and some sense of themselves, revealing the capacity to struggle, survival and resilience of these women.
