N2 - The objective of the study reported by the present paper was to assess the usability of HomeCom and EMMA, which are smart home applications developed by Bosch Termotecnologia to improve buildings’ thermal comfort while safeguarding energy efficiency. An experience involving three evaluators was conducted to apply the heuristic evaluation method based on the Heuristic Evaluation System Checklist (HESC). The results point to satisfactory levels of usability of the assessed smart home applications, since most interfaces have no problems, and the interaction is, in general, done with a coherent flow. The results also show that heuristic evaluation generates a large quantity of objective information, which provides an exhaustive identification of aspects that should be improved.
