Resumo

Advanced digital mapping tools and technologies are enablers for effective e-planning, consultation and communication of users' views during the planning, design, construction and lifecycle process of built and human environments. The regeneration and transformation of cities from the industrial age (unsustainable) to the knowledge age (sustainable) is essentially a 'whole life cycle' process consisting of; planning, development, operation, reuse and renewal. In order to enhance the implementation of build and human environment solutions during the regeneration and transformation of cities, advanced digital applications can have a significant impact. 3D laser scanners offer a fast and reliable procedure to capture data from terrains and buildings. This technology is beginning to be used to acquire 3D point clouds from buildings to be refurbished that are lacking of detailed and up-to-date architectural plans. The fast development of the technology presently allows a rapid production of 2D and 3D CAD models from the point cloud. This paper presents a methodology for producing CAD models from point clouds and discusses the integration of this technology on a vast platform of IT systems, such as, workbenches, 3D printers, nD modeling, GPS and VR projection system. A building data integration system for a visual decision making supported system is also proposed.
