Description
History underlines the fundamental role of youth in transforming society, as they have historically mobilised against injustice and inequality, demanding greater rights to participation and representation. Research indicates that youth engagement in civic processes leads to positive outcomes, but this is not a widespread scenario. Youth, particularly those from non-dominant backgrounds, remain underrepresented in decision-making processes, subject to disparities and at risk of exclusion (United Nations, 2021). Furthermore, even if extensive literature focuses on formal educational settings, other learning environments and their impact on building citizenship (Allaste et al., 2021) and digital media's impact on these relationships have received less attention. Especially contexts that explore interconnections between 3 vertices: intergenerational relationships with educators and digital media's impact on citizenship values, experiences, and perceptions.
STORYline is an exploratory project that aims to advance intergenerational and youth citizenship scholarship by delving into 3 questions: 1) How do intergenerational relationships shape and impact youths' citizenship experiences and perceptions? 2) What influence do adult figures have on youth's citizenship perspectives, and 3) What impact do digital media have on how citizenship narratives are built?
