Abstract

Sexual violence has been portrayed since antiquity, being part of the experiences of several generations and social classes, and is often seen as a very complex phenomenon, with a multiplicity of both causes and consequences for the victim. This study aimed to evaluate the existence of differences between non-specific and specific convited rapists. The sample consisted of men convicted of rape (N = 53). A first group consisted of individuals with a history of other crimes in addition to the crime of rape (N = 33), aged between 20 and 48 (M = 32.45, SD = 7.49). A second group consists of individuals who commit crimes of rape, aged between 21 and 58 (M = 35.94, SD = 11.33). The results demonstrated that there were no statistically significant main effects for the blocks of variables used in the differentiation of the groups. However, it was verified that in the field of Psychopathology, the variable of interpersonal sensitivity was close to the threshold of statistical significance (p = .56), and the specific rapists presented a higher interpersonal sensitivity. Still, looking at the meager results, we may suggest that future studies focus on the dimensions of the interpersonal forum in assessing the characteristics of the different typologies of sexual aggressors.
