The school seems to be a body impervious to change, resulting from scientific and
technological advancement, important for the formation of the new citizen in the context of
current society.
This dissertation examines the reality of three public High schools in the interior of Paraiba,
relatively to the presence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and their
use by teachers.
On the theoretical component we approach on the integration of ICT in daily life of
schools and the Educational Policies in Brazil on ICT, with focus on the proposal of the
National Program for Information Technology in Education (ProInfo).
The achievement of goals led the development and testing of two questionnaires, as the
main instruments in the process of data collection. The first addressed to the directors of the
three schools and the second directed to the teachers of these schools.
The results show that the advent of the computer and the Internet, despite their
educational potential didn’t change, in a considerable extent the teachers’ practice. It was
noticed that, despite the use of ICTs at personal level, it is not operating in the educational
context within the classroom yet.
In relation to the schools we noticed that the guidelines of the National Program is not
effective in practice, to lead the development of strategies to support their effective
integration into the educational context. It was also noticed that the conditions of operation
and amount of equipment available are two major obstacles to the operationalization of the
intentions contained in the documents of ProInfo.
