Abstract

In a scenario in constant transformation it is of utmost importance to emphasize the modification needs of compensation systems. Satisfied and motivated human resources are seen as the pillars of any organization, the intellectual capital that makes it work. The adoption of an organizational strategy has implications for human resources strategy and, therefore, the level of satisfaction / motivation. Therefore, a compensation system is centered on the assumption that employees are essential assets of the organization and their value can be increased and enhanced through a systematic and coherent approach to investment in it. In this exploratory type case study, a survey was used as a tool to obtain the necessary data to allow measurement of the satisfaction and the level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of employees with the compensation scheme of Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve S.A., and therefore their effectiveness level. The results allowed us to understand that employee satisfaction with the remuneration system implemented in the company is high; more than half, 66%, is satisfied or very satisfied with the compensation scheme. A large discrepancy was identified between the values of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation at level excellent, where the intrinsic motivation has much higher values than extrinsic, respectively 51% and 20%, which allows us to conclude that the level of intrinsic motivation of the company's employees is higher than their level of extrinsic motivation. Results showed that this is a wage system that promotes satisfaction and motivation both extrinsic and intrinsic.
