Abstract

Sexual violence, known for being a health and public safety problem, is a deviant behavioral manifestation, being a transversal thematic associated to diversified cultural beliefs, different age ranges, where varied resources are utilized by the practitioners of this aggression. Considering the prevalence of sexual aggression, including in university students, and the necessity to enrich the knowledge about this theme, the present study has as objective characterize sexual violence that resorts to sexually aggressive strategies in male university students, as a risk group, considering the influence of psychopathy traces, sociosexuality and legitimating beliefs of sexual violence. 232 heterosexual male university students (ages ≥ 18) answered to the online survey “Diferenças de género na interação sexual com o sexo oposto”, composed by a sociodemographic survey, by the Sexually Aggressive Behavior Scale (SABS), by the Escala de Crenças sobre Violência Sexual (ECVS), by the Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (SOI) and by portuguese version of the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory – Short Version (YPI-S). The collected data was submitted to a statistic analysis with frequency description and later MANOVA and ANOVA, with a significance level of 0,05. 115 (56,7%) students did not show any history of aggressive sexual behavior. 88 (43,3%) reported the use of some sexually aggressive strategy, with the intent of initiating sexual interaction with women, in which 81,8% reported a behavior considered sexually coercive, 44,3% as sexual abuse and 9,1% use of physical force. The results revealed a main significant effect for the group condition (Grupo Agressor x Grupo não Agressor) in the sociosexuality and the rape legitimating belief, except in the victim provocation as well as in the psychopathy traces, in which was not verified significant differences between groups. The obtained results promote the possibility of reflection for the development and realization of future investigations, which encompass younger populations (ultimately from early childhood), as a way to design more efficient and adequate prevention and intervention programs in this area, based on psycho-education, as a way to minimize this problem.
