More than mere entertainment, in the movies we find potential riches inherent in the teaching-learning process. Thus, the present research had the objective of researching the contributions of cinema in the construction of identity and mediation of knowledge, problematizing and reflecting the use of films as educational tools. To support theoretically, we seek the contribution of Bardin (1977), Duarte (2002), Freire (1987, 1992 e 2005), Hall (2006), Morin (2001) and Vygotsky (1989), among others referenced in the body of this dissertation. The methodology was based on a qualitative research, which proposed the participating teachers seek to establish a dialogue between the didactic possibility of cinema and its social dimensions in the production of knowledge. Thirty seven teachers from elementary school final series were invited through an online questionnaire to present their perceptions about the relationship established between cinema and education. Finally, the results of this research point out that, even without the use of directed methodologies, teachers make use of the films in school and bet on their relationships in the contribution of the formation of social identities.
