Abstract

The study aimed to determine if the skills considered in CONFIAS [Phonological Awareness: sequential evaluation instrument] and Assessment test reading of isolated words have high correlation so that the results on CONFIAS predict learning problems in reading on subjects of 1st year of elementary school. The research was divided into two stages: application of phonological awareness test, and ten months later, evaluation of reading single words. The data obtained show the following results: differences between the results in syllabic and phonemic metalinguistic skills, with the statistical average lower in phonemic awareness. Unsatisfactory overall performance, skills considered in CONFIAS, which can predict learning problems in reading or that metalinguistic cognitive skills are underdeveloped. The results obtained in reading isolated words, individuals show better performance in reading regular words compared to performance in reading irregular words and pseudowords, however, this assessment overall, the result confirms correlation.
