O fenómeno do bullying: percepções dos agressores, vítimas e suas famílias

Abstract

The main worry of this research, was to comprehend what are the mecanisms, that drive the aggressors in practicing the phenomenon of bullying, as well as the effects in the victims and their family. The research was held with families, three victims and six aggressors. We conducted some applications of semistructured interviews to the participants. The analysis of the qualitative data was held by the Thematic Content Analysis (TCA). As for the results, they showed different causes of bullying being: prejudices; confidence in their own superiority; violence, aggression and conflict in the media; envy; familiar environment; low self-esteem; lack of values in their neighborhood, community, and a bad school environment. As consequences of the phenomenon, academic losses emerged and a desire to change schools. Also stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, fear and insecurity; problems in theirselfesteem; social isolation; denial, avoidance and detachment; irritability, anger and hostility; satisfaction of needs; hatred, anger and revenge. The families of the victims feel discredit in school, family conflict; anxiety and concerns; guilt, shame, anger, pain and a need for professional help. Therefore, it is suggested an educational mobilization of the schools, families, government and society to prevent and reduce violence.
