Abstract

One of the fundamental aspects for the diagnosis of sexual dysfunctions is sexual
distress, based on a transdiagnostic approach we want to understand the role that
difficulties in emotional regulation have in sexual distress, focusing on the maladaptive
component of negative emotions and the difficulty to deal with them, in order to
understand their connection with sexual distress. The present study is composed of a total
sample of 339 participants, who were divided into two subgroups: participants who
“consider themselves to have sexual problems” (subgroup 1) which is composed of 99
participants, with an average age of 38.35 years, the another subgroup are participants
who “do not consider themselves to have sexual problems” and this is made up of 240
participants, with an average age of 35.88.
All participants responded to a questionnaire on the Qualtrics platform, and the
data obtained was subsequently analyzed using SPSS. Firstly, a Pearson correlation
analysis was carried out and subsequently a linear regression and moderation were carried
out. The results obtained indicate that in individuals who perceive themselves to have
sexual problems there is a strong association between emotional regulation difficulties
and sexual distress, on the other hand, those who do not have this perception of sexual
problems do not show this association.
