Abstract
This report on the supervised teaching practice is the result of the empirical studyconducted during the supervised teaching practice in the Drawing A discipline in the 10th
D class of the scientific-humanistic Visual Arts course in high school education at the
Manuel Cargaleiro High School, located in Seixal during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Through the adoption of the action-research methodology, it was to assess the use
of the graphic diary - both an art object and a didactic object - as an essential means in
discovering local cultural heritage demonstrating its potential to help students develop
technically, expressively and creatively.
Considering the curricular guidelines of the Ministry of Education and the
respective Directorate-General for Education, the teaching unit “Discovered Trace in the
City” was created, with two field trips, one to the Church of Nossa Senhora da
Consolação/Arrentela and the second to Quinta da Fidalga, integrating the spaces of the
Manuel Cargaleiro Arts Workshop and the International Centre for Contemporary
Medals.
From these visits it was possible to see that the graphic diary was an agglutinator
in the realization of cultural discovery and in the effectiveness of the development of
graphic recording skills, becoming an immersive, reflective and personal experience.
