This investigation aimed to verify an association between social support satisfation and
cognitive function, more specifically it aimed to analyze satisfaction with social support and
assess cognitive function. For this, 50 participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire,
the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Frontal Assessment
Battery, the Social Support questionnaire and Working Memory questionnaire. The population
aged 65 years or older, with no history of neurological/psychiatric disorders, as well as of
uncorrected visual and/or motor changes, was considered. The findings indicate an influence of
social support in working memory subjective complaints when depressive symptoms are
controlled, that is, when social support satisfaction is deficient and depression levels are high,
the more subjective complaints of working memory will be. Also, they indicate an influence of
age and education on the MOCA and FAB scores. It concludes the need for preventive and
supportive work with the elderly, especially those who are institutionalized, since a preventive
strategy helps to maintain cognitive functioning.
