Abstract

Educational institutions in Brazil have been going through a major process of change, implying an adjustment to the new standards of society, through innovation and the practice of participatory management. In this perspective, a major challenge is the implementation of an integrated management model that meets the aspirations of the school community and involving all stakeholders in the educational process. In this context, this research analyzes the implementation of an Integrated Management System, the educational context of Ipojuca. The goal is to analyze the perceptions of managers, coordinators, supervisors and students about their participation as a community in the implementation and optimization of an integrated management system (IMS) in a municipal school of Ipojuca-PE, between the period of 2010 to 2012.We used the qualitative and quantitative methodology to do this research. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires analyzed using SPSS. The results allow that although the change to democratic governance is perceived as significant and positive, there are still some embarrassment due to public policies, lack of time and lack of implementation of effective communication. However, it is necessary a high external and internal evaluation, more commitment in general and more participation of the family in a collaborative work among all. So the road to democratic management, starts through dialogue and discussion of their problems and needs, allowing the participation of all members in the educational process.
