The Mathematics arrived at the new age being responsible for a great part of the exclusion in
the Brazilian pertaining to school systems. This situation requires of the High courses of
Mathematics a deep reflection on the formation of the professor of Mathematics that will teach
in the schools of basic education. Inside the Mathematical Education, currently, the use of the
Resolution of Problems as education methodology is seen as a viable alternative to lead the
pupil to the construction of the knowledge. Through this methodology, the pupil is guided to
participate of the construction of the knowledge under the supervision of the professor, who
leads it through questionings the construction of ideas that solve situation-problems.
This study seeks to ascertain what mathematics teachers who teach in public schools of basic
education in the State of Sergipe perceive of the methodology of solving problems, through
qualitative research and with the application of semi-structured interviews, supported
by authors such as Polya, D'Ambrosio, Dante, Fiorentini, among others.
