This research aims to study the conceptions and assessment practices of Elementary School Teachers in public schools of the Municipal João Pessoa, Paraíba State - Brazil. Your main objective is to analyze the concepts and evaluative practice adopted by teachers in their school routine. Within the universe of 97 teachers of the fifth year of elementary school, our sample consisted of 45 teachers, making up 46.4% of the universe. The choice of 45 schools took the same stand out because of their problems in the areas of teaching and learning, dropout, repetition, violence and high failure rates. We apply the instruments in the months of July and August 2012, and the concern of analyzing the qualitative aspects, starting and playing the whole to the particular. We can consider that the survey indicated objectively the lack of clarity as to these professionals fundamentals theoretical / practical evaluation about, therefore interfering with the construction of a democratic education, participatory and inclusive. It was clear the need for continuing education programs for educators, as well as the need for a theoretical and practical reflection on the evaluation process in municipal schools in their school routine.
