Objective: to describe the research and literature on the psychological characterization
of juvenile offenders.
Method: systematic review, using the PRISMA-P guidelines. Eligibility criteria were
developed for the selection of publications and the search was carried out in 4 electronic
databases. The process was carried out by two independent investigators.
Results: the studies are all quantitative in nature, most of them retrospective cross sectional design, and most of the data were also collected from educational centers. Most
of the studies were developed in the United States of America and the studies use different
instruments for data collection. The results for the most part refer us to the same results.
Conclusion: The studies demonstrate problems in terms of the mental health of young
women, and some correlate the problems of internalization and externalization, address
the risk and protective factors and reach the conclusion of the need to review different
prevention and intervention strategies in males.
