Abstract
he concept of quality of life has gained great importance over the years, especially inpolymedicated patients who end up not adhering to therapy, because they take many
medications leading to physical and psychological complications. This reduction in
quality of life leads to drug resistance and waste of resources and, as a consequence, there
is a compromise in improving the population's health.
The objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the quality of life in a sample of
polymedicated patients from a community pharmacy, using the SF-12 questionnaire as a
measuring instrument, and to evaluate the quality of life in a sample of patients with
multimorbidity.
In this study, Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia are among the most prevalent chronic
conditions. In the context of polypharmacy, patients with multimorbidity have a reduced
quality of life, with the physical component being the most determining factor for this
result; the mental component did not have considerable differences.
Therefore, it is important that measures are implemented to improve patient’s adherence
to therapy through clinical management of therapy and optimization of medical
prescriptions with the aim of improving quality of life.
