Abstract

The educational nurse is the professional who acts in the academic formation of other professional, aiming the process of teaching and learning, contributing to turning them ethical, humanized professionals and engaged with the career as the caring nurse is the one who acts in an assisting way aiming the patient health and welfare. The general goal in this study is analyze which has been being the nurse role while former educator, the specific goals: to identify the role of nurses in vocational training; Know the teaching and learning methodology used in nurses formation; characterize the benefits of a quality teaching. In regard to method: Exploratory and descriptive study of qualitative nature. 40 nursing course professionals who have their teaching practice at Centro Universitário de João Pessoa (UNIPÊ) and Instituto de Educação Superior da Paraíba (IESP) composed the population. 10 (ten) teaching nurses composed the sample. The data collection process was developed through an interview, with questions that boarded the nurse performance as former educator. An analysis was accomplished about the nurse role while a former educator. It has been shown improvements and withdrawal regarding this question. Withdrawal are noticed when educators showed not be able to disunite the teaching professional from the caring one, considering them just as an assisting caring professional. The advances occurred when it was really understood the nurse role while teaching former, that means form ethnic and humanized professionals committed with the teaching and learning process. It was possible in this research aim the proposed goals. Withdrawals about the interviewed teachers’ perceptions were shown, but despite, there were agreement in some aspects and reporting about the investigated scenario. This study confirms that being an educational nurse requires more than a simple knowledge, it is necessary to be critical, reflexive and a mediator in learning and teaching process.
