In the context of understanding the phenomenon of sexual violence, the literature
focuses on studying the role of rape myths in perpretation and legitimization of sexual
violence behaviors. Therefore, this study aims to understand the role of rape myths in
how male individuals respond emotionally to viewing clips of sexual violence and
physical violence against women. To this end, 30 male students participated in this study.
The results showed some significant associations between rape myths and the way
subjects responded emotionally to clips of violence, especially the lower negative affect
towards the clip of sexual violence. It is hoped that this study will foster research in the
area, towards a better understanding about the psychological processes involved in sexual
violence behaviors.
