Co-worry is associated with positive results (e.g., mutual support and comfort) and
negative results (e.g., negative results to the relationship as well as to the people involved) and
can significantly contribute to the development and maintenance of anxious and depressive
states. Through a transversal and quantitative design, this study purpose was to adapt and
validate the Abbreviated Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ-A) to co-worry in romantic
relationships (CO-PSWQ-A) and to analyze its psychometric properties. Since the analytical
procedure involves an exploratory factor analysis (AFE) and a confirmatory one (AFC), the
general sample was randomly divided into two subsamples. Subsample 1 corresponds to AFE,
is composed of 129 participants, and subsample 2 to AFC with 126 participants. The CO PSWQ-A presented satisfactory internal consistency indexes (a = .90). The instrument showed
construct validity. The positive correlation with PSWQ-A showed convergent validity and
discriminant validity was demonstrated by the lack of correlations between CO-PSWQ-A and
The Sexual Pleasure Scale. The results point to good psychometric properties of the CO-PSWQ A and suggest it as a useful and valid instrument for measuring co-concern in romantic relationships.
