This study aims to characterize sample of convicted child sexual offenders
according to the domains of the Early Maladaptive Schemes (EMS). The sample was
collected in northern and center prisons of the country, consisting of 39 male
participants convicted of child sexual abuse and divided into two groups, intrafamilial
versus extrafamilial sex offenders. Participants responded to the Young Schema
Questionnaire and the data were analyzed using statistical methods of multivariate
analysis of variance. The results show that extrafamilial sex offenders activate more
EMS’s compared to intrafamilial sex offenders, particularly in the domains Distancing /
Rejection, Autonomy and Performance Deteriorated and Influence Others. Results
suggest that child sexual offenders, particularly the extrafamilial typology, may benefit from the Schemes Focused Therapy.
