Technostress can be defined as a negative psychological state associated with the use of New
Information and Communication Technologies that varies in a continuum between
technophobia and technoaddition. Although the poles of this spectrum are not seen as specific
phobias and addictions, they are associated with several psychopathology, namely with anxiety
and depression, which can be explained and mediated by common transdiagnostic factors:
rumination, emotion regulation and worry. The present study aimed to use Latent Class
Analysis to identify risk subgroups, taking into account transdiagnostic factors and according
to their interaction with technology. As an exploratory and cross-sectional study, it was based
on a convenience sample of 470 participants (M age =29.25 years; SD=10.7 years), over age and
with Portuguese as their native language. The results revealed the existence of 4 distinct user
profiles, with special emphasis on a group of super users, oriented towards work, and
dysfunctional interaction that stood out due to high levels of clinically meaningful dimensions.
These types of super users are characterized by their youth, high academic qualifications and
early use of the internet, however, they have high levels of rumination and concern, as well as
a deficit in emotional regulation.
