Abstract

Sports journalism, which emerged in the mid-nineteenth century, is one of the specializations of journalism that has grown the most over the last years. This growth is not only due to the fact that newsrooms invest in sports journalism, but also to the fact that sport has gained weight in the society in which we are inserted. The front page of a newspaper is the most important part of it, because it reflects the most important news of the day, primarily through the daily headline and later on the surrounding highlights. Starting from an initial question and its assumptions, the aim of this study is to understand if the three major national sports newspapers give the same kind of highlights, in their front page, to sports disciplines. After an analysis of more than 240 front pages of the newspapers A Bola, Record and O Jogo, between 2005 and 2021, it is possible to confirm the predominance of football even when other sports are the daily news.
