Nursing is a pillar of the global healthcare system. However, nurses are currently facing various challenges that have a negative impact on their well-being, and require a reformulation of the profession's structure, as well as supportive practices and measures. Following this, it becomes clear that nurses' well-being is crucial, both for their own health and for the quality of nursing care.
The benefits of work-life balance for achieving well-being are well-documented, making it imperative to explore new ways to improve this relationship. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the connection between well-being, work-life balance, and flexibility, providing a critical perspective on how to enhance working conditions. To this end, it seeks to answer the following question: How does flexibility mediate the relation between work-life balance and nurses' well-being?
In general, nurses report a lack of flexibility, nevertheless this variable acts as a mediator in the relationship between work-life balance and well-being. Furthermore, the study's results indicate that while flexibility is important in this relationship, it is insufficient, and new strategies are needed to improve nurses' well-being.
