A motivação de alunos de agronomia : uma visão a partir da teoria da autodeterminação

Abstract

The present research has as an objective to understand the students’ motivation from the Agronomy Course of the Centre of Agrarian Sciences of Areia - PB, by the Self-Determination Theory. It was identified the motivational profile of 144 students from the four first periods of the Agronomy course of the institution previously mentioned. It was also done a study of the motivational relationship types of the students and their personal characteristic raised. The identification of the regulatory graduates styles was made using a questionnaire with questions relating the types of motivation, External Regulation of frequency classes, External Regulation by social rewards, Introjected Regulation, Identified Regulation, Integrated regulation and Intrinsic Motivation. It was used the Brazilian version of the Academic Motivation Scale, created originally by Vallerand (1989) and adapted by Guimarães and Bzuneck (2008), taking as reference the Self-Determination Theory, measuring the motivational types of students. The Integrated Regulation, followed by Intrinsic Motivation, had the highest affirmative average. Both are the more autonomous types of motivation, which were awarded top marks by the respondents. This means that the results indicate a greater likelihood for the Independent Regulation of the participating characters of this research. The Integrated Regulation has an internalization and complete integration of External Regulations, becoming part of yourself with personal agreement and other values, while the Intrinsic Motivation relates to generating an intentional behavior of satisfaction with the action itself, it is not necessary an external regulatory. In the relation of the motivating factors by gender, the most valued factors in both sexes are the Intrinsic Motivation and Integrated Regulation. The analysis of the motivating factors due to the formation of the characters, if from a public school or private, revealed that the students from public school had higher to an Integrated Regulatory Factors and Extrinsic Regulation. The individuals who had parents with basic education level, middle and upper valued more the Integrated Regulatory Factors and Intrinsic Motivation, also taking place with the regarding education mothers.
