Divorce is a major life event, that can result in adjustment problems or be an opportunity for
psychological growth. In the present study, we seek to understand through the relational
history of divorced subjects with minor children, the developmental trajectories and their
psychological functioning over time and whether there are gender differences.
The study includes 10 participants, five men and five women, divorced for two to thirteen
years, with minor children. For data collection, the semi-structured interview “History of
Relationship, Divorce and Coparenting” was individually administered, built for the present
study and adapted from the McAdams (2008) Life Story Interview script. Thematic analysis
of the data has been conducted, using the software Nvivo10. We verified that globally after
marital dissolution, in a medium to long term view, there is satisfaction, development and
personal growth and there are differences between men and women in the dimensions of the
psychological well-being. Women have higher levels of self-acceptance, while men have
more environmental mastery, have deeper personal relationships, and have had greater
personal growth. There are no major differences in life purpose and autonomy.
