As Rui Barbosa sees it, the Brazilian education was important to the intellectual development of the nation, so he has taken several initiatives in this field, such as giving opinions on projects of school reforms and writing articles on education in various periodicals. He wrote an article about the Normal School in the newspaper Diário de Notícias. Rui Barbosa's intention was to contribute to the cultural and educational development in Brazil, therefore he played a major role in the educational and design reforms so that the country could be viewed more positively by the world. This project aims to analyze the educational and curricular proposals by Rui Barbosa: (I) identify the school type and teaching models advocated by Rui Barbosa; (II) other authors that had influenced Rui Barbosa in the design of its educational ideals; (III) analyze the parliamentary interventions by Rui Barbosa on educational issues; (IV) identify media outlets that collaborated to Rui Barbosa’s work (V) Investigate whether the education and teaching were subjects toreflections and journalistic chronicles. This study will be developed through an exploratory research, with a bibliographic nature, which aims to seek answers through scan of books and various sources in order to identify, locate and obtain information about the importance of this author for Brazilian education in the study period. It is thus a deep drawn from previously published material, primarily of books, journal articles, and newspapers of the time currently available material on the Internet (Gil, 1991). We make use of a qualitative approach, analyzing detailed features, considering knowledge as something unfinished, in a constant redo; There is emphasis on the interpretation of the context in which the research takes place to a full apprehension of the object; the revelation of the reality of profound form, emphasizing the interrelation of its components and the use of a variety of information sources (LUDKE and ANDRE, 1986). This work is relevant to the extent that it seeks to resize the figure of Rui Barbosa as a militant legislator. He looked for teaching guidelines in European countries such as France, England, Germany, among others, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This project also aims to broaden discussions about educational issues, so far not recognized in the context of educational pedagogical discussions. The results of this research will contribute to the knowledge on education and especially possible to think again and again about the education system from Empire to the Old Republic.
