Abstract

This research, centred on the importance of the aesthetic and artistic experience, is concerned about arts and its significance for the development of the human being, focusing on Drawing as an extended subject for the “visual arts” education. Aiming to understand the value of Drawing as a subject, which promotes and develops aesthetic, artistic and cognitive experiences on the Visual Arts Education, this study is centred on the teachers‟ role and on the visual arts as part of an extended curriculum. In order to develop the empirical study, we started from a theoretical framework, addressing to reflections on the above concepts, which allowed us to develop questionnaires for the art teachers. The presented results prove the importance of an extended art curriculum, as well as the consequence of drawing, as present on all art subjects. Because the visual arts strongly encourage enriching experiences in the cognitive, social, cultural and civic development of the human being, it would be appropriate for the secondary school to have a discipline of aesthetic nature, instead of focusing on the “established” program that as is offered by the Ministry of Education and Science.
