Abstract
More than 40 years after the Revolution of April 25, it is urgent to look at this
moment and try to understand the dynamics of the moment and why there was
no significant tension between the governments resulting from this revolutionary
movement and the Catholic Church.
Specifically, in this text we analyze some texts of the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon,
António Ribeiro, perceiving how the central structure of the Catholic Church
prepared the social interaction with the social issues raised by the revolution.
In fact, prior to the revolution, Antonio Ribeiro already raised some of the issues
that would later be central to the revolutionary movement, as well as being in
consonance with the revolutionary movement in some of his homilies and letters
immediately after the revolution.
