Abstract

This paper describes the results of a documentary analysis carried out on 406 early childhood educator’s planning documents. These documents where collected from nine “Escolinhas Comunitárias” (Community Schools) in the province of Niassa, in Mozambique. These Community Schools are an educational response to children up to 6 years old and are included in a wider project developed by the Diocese of Lichinga called Othukumana-Juntos. Having support from non-governmental organizations for more than 20 years, this project aims to strength and improve the quality of Early Childhood Education. The data analysis allowed us to determine patterns, characterizing the way planning is built and registered. It was also possible to realize how Early Childhood Educators in Community Schools, identify formal and pedagogical aspects, regarding intentions, purposes, contents, educational activities, and experiences that they provide and plan. Organizing space and time as well as the children’s role in these processes were analysed in planning documents where professionals registered evaluation and interventions. The way these professionals develop their work, revealed improvements on how training and intervention is carried out as well to the need to assume a constructive attitude towards the curriculum.
