Abstract
The phenomenon of municipal non-partisan movements is recente in Portuguese politics. Apparently these movements are not volatile and tehre are estimates that they will grow as elections take place. At the moment, they are fourth in the ranking of municipal political entities. This article analyses the emergence and modus operandi of municipal non-partisan movements that became visible in the municipalities of Portalegre, Estremoz, Redondo, Borba and Alandroal, in the Alentejo. This article establishes that by large these movements have similar origins and they are integrated by those citizens who are closer to the dwellers in the municipalities and parishes. Their organization and functioning are identical, their promotion relies on social networking and their campaigns are similarly prepared and executed.
