Abstract
This article explores the relationship between informed consent for medical treatment (or for medical research) and the role of consent as a lawful basis for processing data concerning health (or genetic data). It explores the challenges posed by the ongoing technological change taking place in the provision of healthcare in Europe and identifies the solutions, including legislative measures at a European Union level, aiming at addressing those challenges.
