Abstract
Image and text are two elements shared by
magazine advertisements and magazine covers.
Do the similarities between these two
communicational devices begin or end here?
The answer to this question entails the analysis
of the strategies that inform the conception of
an advertisement and a magazine cover. Due to
consisting in solid representatives of the
journalistic world, we have chosen to
circumscribe the analysis to newsmagazines.
The comparison and discussion of theoretical
arguments will be complemented by an
empirical analysis of the January 2004 covers
of the Portuguese newsmagazine, Visão, with
the objective of discovering the traces which
may or may not relate covers to magazine
advertisements.
