Abstract

The preparation of 4-iodotetrathiafulvalene-1,4-dinitrobenzene (1/1) compound by charge-transfer system was described. The structure contained mixed stacks of alternating molecules of the donor 4-iodotetrathiafulvalene (ITTF) and acceptor 1,4-dinitrobenzene (DNB), with an average interplanar separation of ca 3.5 Å. The ITTF molecules showed same bond lengths as in crystal structure of pure ITTF and widely different from those in ITTF+ cation radicals, which indicated an absense of inter-molecular charge-transfer. It was found that benzene ring of DNB was planar, and the nitro groups N1/O1/O2 and N2/O2/O4 were inclined to the ring plane by 7.4 (1) and 4.2 (2)° respectivily.
