Project Details
Description
The Blue4Skin project intends to use sardine co-products, from the company “Conservas Pinhais & Cia” in order to be used as raw materials in innovative health products for the skin, with added value. The optimization of extraction, fractionation, isolation and identification of marine natural products and the corresponding screening study of various bioactivities related to skin health is important to enable the use of these residues and co-products and ensure the safety, quality, and acceptability of the product. It is also intended to contribute to the mitigation and adaptation to climate change through the reduction of waste from these industries. Thus, the exploitation of marine biomass and recovery of sea co-products seems to be a promising alternative to sustainable uses of marine resources with greater economic benefits, in line with the concepts of circular economy and blue bioeconomy.
