Biography

In 2019 completed his PhD in Social Work from Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon with a scholarship from Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and in 2004 a Degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of Portugal. He is an assistant professor at Lusófona University where he teaches several undergraduate and master's curricular units at the Social Work Institute. He is an integrated researcher at LusoGlobe - Lusofona Center on Global Challenges and an associate researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte), and is the author of several publications on sexuality, gender, transgender, sex work, poverty, social exclusion and social work . His PhD thesis about the experiences of trans sex work in Portugal was distinguished, in 2019, with the APAV Prize for Research and, in 2020, with the Silva Leal Prize. An activist for Human Rights, he has been involved in research and social intervention projects with sex workers. He is a member of the board of the Lisbon, Tejo and Sado delegation of the Family Planning Association (APF) and is part of the Sex Work Network (RTS)
