Biography
Manuel Pita é doutorado pela Universidade de Edimburgo, na Escócia, onde trabalhou no grupo de Inteligência Artificial e Educação. O Professor Manuel Pita já participou num projeto para melhorar as competências matemáticas, financiado pela União Europeia no FP6 (LeActiveMath). Posteriormente, com financiamento da FCT IR Pita trabalhou na área da Ciência dos Dados, para apoiar estudos em Biologia Computacional e Ciências Sociais. Os seus mentores são a Professora Melanie Mitchell e Prof. Luís Rocha, ambos mundialmente reconhecidos por trabalho nas áreas de inteligência artificial, ciência dos dados e redes complexas. Recentemente, IR Pita participou num estudo que resultou na previsão dos períodos epidémicos da gripe na Europa a través de procuras de sintomas em Google e chamadas ao sistema Saúde 24.
