Biography

José Pedro Morgado is an accomplished academic, researcher, and coach specializing in exercise physiology, sports science, and swimming. He currently serves as a University Research Assistant and Adjunct Professor at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, Portugal, where he is a key member of the CIDEFES research center. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate to doctoral levels, covering subjects such as biochemistry, sports training, exercise physiology, and swimming. He has also actively participated in the supervision and examination of master's and doctoral theses in exercise, nutrition, and well-being.

With over 15 years of higher education teaching experience, Morgado has held faculty positions at institutions including Universidade Europeia, Instituto Superior de Ciências Educativas, and Instituto Piaget. He has contributed to curriculum development, implemented blended learning methodologies, and served on academic councils.

Morgado is a certified swimming coach (Grade 3) and has an extensive coaching background, notably with Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sport Algés e Dafundo, where his teams achieved multiple national records and medals, and qualified athletes for international competitions, including the Olympic Games. He has also led inclusive and youth development projects in swimming.

His research is internationally recognized, focusing on training assessment, heart rate variability, overtraining, exercise immunology, and the physiological effects of exercise in elite athletes. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, particularly on the immune response to exercise and swimming performance. Morgado has coordinated and participated in several funded projects, including Erasmus+ Sport initiatives on dual careers for athletes and inclusive sports, as well as R&D projects on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and fatigue in military operations.

He is an award-winning researcher, recognized for his contributions to pediatric exercise science and inclusive sports, and has received funding and honors from European and national agencies.

Morgado is fluent in Portuguese and English, with working knowledge of French, and demonstrates strong digital literacy and adaptability to new technologies.

His professional credentials include the titles of Physical Exercise Technician and Swimming Coach, and he is an active member of the European College of Sports Science.
